What is Voice Over IP (VoIP)?
VoIP is the new technology that is replacing our telephone networks
By the end of 2025, BT will switch-off all traditional copper-wire delivered telephony in the UK (known as PSTN). In its place, the telephone service will need to be provided digitally over broadband – this new telephone service is called Voice Over IP (VoIP) and the project is already well under way.
The connectivity to our houses and business premises will be updated and the telephone handsets currently in use will need replacement. Homes and businesses will need to use VoIP handsets for the new digital service but you will be able to keep your existing telephone numbers as they are moved (ported) into the new VoIP telephone system.
